The Christian faith
The Christian faith is the motivation for our work and it brings a vital spiritual dimension to all we do. Jesus Christ is our model and the Bible’s teaching our guide. Although the work is done by Christians, it is done indiscriminately for the benefit of all peoples, regardless of race, religion, creed or sexual orientation.
Community-transforming, grassroots initiatives
We work in partnership with churches and other Christian organisations running grassroots, community-based initiatives. In so doing, we hope to reach those who need help most in a cost-effective way appropriate to the scale of the HIV and AIDS pandemic. We recognise high HIV prevalence rates have a multi-factorial cause and that holistic community transformation is important in addressing issues of prevention and care.
Empowering relationships
Our partnerships with local organisations are characterised by mutual accountability, transparency and respect. We wish to promote the development and empowerment of partner organisations and, through them, those they work with. In this way we hope that we will increase the effectiveness of the work and draw on all that is positive in local culture.
Learning and influence
We value continual learning and are always seeking to improve the way we do things. We monitor and evaluate our activities, are involved with and encourage participatory research, and share our findings with others. We seek to pass on our learning to improve practice and influence policy.
Raising support
EngageHIV relies on the continuing generosity of many supporters, including individuals, charitable trusts, churches and young people. Our Christian ethos and 100% action guarantee provide an important foundation for trust, which supporters of EngageHIV find very reassuring.
Prayer is a vital part of the support we receive and the staff and trustees continue to look to God for guidance and inspiration in all areas of our work. Our desire is that as EngageHIV brings hope to those affected by HIV and AIDS, it will be a living example of God’s love for all people.
